Pardon me? The truth about the Bill Clinton pardons vs. ONE Scooter Libby sentence commutation

OK...George Bush recently commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby for the "crime" of disclosing that Valerie Plame was a CIA officer.  But..Plame was NOT undercover, she made a donation to the Gore campaign and listed herself and her company, quite openly several months before all of this came up, http://www.blogsforbush.com/mt/archives/007956.html

According to an article in Newsweek http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14533384/site/newsweek/ it was Robert Novak who initially broke the news about Plame and Richard Armitage who apparently leaked it.  Funny how he let Libby twist in the wind for months without coming to his aid knowing it was himself not Libby who told Novak of the Plame identity.  Why?  According the article above, he is a moderate republican and had strong feelings against the war.  Apparently, they tried for the next best thing since they were unable to get Bush or Cheney...by indicting Cheney's chief of staff Scooter Libby.

Let's have a look at a few of the 38 sentences commuted and 146 pardons granted by Clinton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_pardoned_by_Bill_Clinton

Highlights
Commutations

Mel Reynolds - In August 1994, he was indicted for having sex with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer, in April 1997, he was convicted on 15 unrelated counts of bank fraud and lying to SEC investigators.

Dorothy Rivers
- In 1997 Dorothy Rivers was charged and pled guilty to stealing 1.2 million tax dollars in federal grant money. She used it to buy, among other things, a $35,000 dollar fur coat and a Mercedes-Benz for her son.

Carlos Vignali
-  he was serving the 6th of 15 years in prison for organized cocaine trafficking

Pardons
Roger Clinton
- On February 17, 2001, he was arrested and charged with two counts of drunken driving and one for disturbing the peace. In a deal that spared him jail time, Roger Clinton pleaded guilty to a non-alcohol-related charge of reckless driving.

Susan McDougall
- She was convicted on May 28, 1996, and spent time in prison for four counts of fraud and conspiracy relating to the Whitewater scandal. She was later charged with (and acquitted of) embezzlement against noted conductor Zubin Mehta.[1].  She also spent 18 months in prison including 7 weeks in solitary confinement for civil contempt of court. U.S. District Court Judge Susan Webber Wright sentenced her after McDougal refused to answer three questions from Whitewater prosecutors before the grand jury empaneled by Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr to investigate the Whitewater deals.

Marc Rich
- In 1983, Rich and partner Pincus Green were indicted by U.S. Attorney and future mayor of New
York City
Rudolph Giuliani, on charges of tax evasion and illegal trading with Iran.

Dan
"Let me have one $.42 stamp and here's a $5000 check...change please" Rostenkowski - in 1994, when he was indicted on corruption charges for his key role in the House post office scandal.

Patty Hearst
- The granddaughter of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst, she gained notoriety in 1974 when, following her kidnapping by the Symbionese Liberation Army, she ultimately joined her captors in furthering their cause. Apprehended after having taken part in a bank robbery with other SLA members, Hearst was imprisoned for almost two years before her sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter.

Honorable mention
FALN
- To help Hillary get elected in New York...On August 11, 1999, Clinton commuted the sentences of 16 members of FALN, a violent Puerto Rican nationalist group that set off 120 bombs in the United States mostly in New York City and Chicago, convicted for conspiracies to commit robbery, bomb-making, and sedition, as well as for firearms and explosives violations.[3] None of the 16 were convicted of bombings or any crime which injured another person, though they were sentenced with terms ranging from 35 to 105 years in prison for the conviction of conspiracy and sedition.

Sandy Berger - On July 19, 2004, it was revealed that the U.S. Justice Department was investigating Berger for unlawfully mishandling classified documents in October 2003, by removing them from a National Archives reading room prior to testifying before the 9/11 Commission.

On May 17, 2007, Berger relinquished his license to practice law as a result of the Justice Deptartment investigation. Saying, "I have decided to voluntarily relinquish my license." He added that, "While I derived great satisfaction from years of practicing law, I have not done so for 15 years and do not envision returning to the profession. I am very sorry for what I did, and I deeply apologize." By giving up his license, Berger avoided cross-examinination by the Bar Counsel regarding details of his thefts.[31]

uh huhh...sure....for what!?  Must have been very important info to risk his career and lose his license for Bubba!  Where is the main stream media on this...why did I not hear WORD ONE about it?

The Truth about the "Right Wing" & Obama's charge

Barak Obama recently made the charge that "...some right-wing evangelical leaders have exploited and politicized religious beliefs in an effort to sow division."
http://townhall.com/News/NewsArticle.aspx?ContentGuid=d73099af-bd80-4905-a87d-a8db3a34572f

Let's examine two of what I would consider to be the most contentious issues both to people of faith and to those who are not believers; abortion and homosexuality.  Then we will look at Obama's public stance on these very issues.  It seems that Barak may be trying to woo people of faith to vote for him, hoping that they will not  educate themselves on these important issues and compare his public stance to scripture.

OK...Obama states "...the evangelical leaders have...exploited beliefs...to sow division."  I find this charge laughable!  It is Christians that hold to the tenants of their faith.  It is the left that is seeking to weaken or dismiss the distinction of morals in society.  THAT my friends is sowing division.

Taking drastic measures like demanding that the boy scouts have gay scout leaders, or that students be escorted to the planned parenthood clinics for a taxpayer funded abortion without their parents consent, or that homosexuality simply be taught as a values free sexual alternative, these are the divisive bombs being thrown by the left into the homes of the people of faith, many of whom think it is right to simply "turn the other cheek."

Abortion Barak Obama is clearly pro choice and supports partial birth abortion (infanticide)
http://quiz.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Abortion.htm
Some scriptures that are often cited to back up the claim that life is sacred follow:
Psalm 139:13
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Jer 1:4-5
4 The Lord gave me this message:
5  “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”

Luked 1:41
41 At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

This is just a quick sampling of a few scriprures that I am aware of dealing with the sanctity of human life and should present a reasonably solid case as to why many Christians oppose abortion.

Homosexuality Barak Obama opposes gay marriage, supports civil unions and gay equality
http://quiz.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Civil_Rights.htm
Another somewhat divisive issue facing our culture is that of homosexuality.

Lev 18:22
22 “Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.

Lev 20:13
13 “If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act.

Rom 1:24-27
24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. 26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

Forgiveness is available.  The blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin.  Once forgiven, there is no record.

Rom 3:25
25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,

Heb 8:12
12  And I will forgive their wickedness,
and I will never again remember their sins.”

As for Obama, he has made his positions known quite publicly.  As stated above, it is not the people of faith that are dividing, but the left that is trying to undermine the moral foundation of our society by trying to compromise a moral position.  Can you be partly pregnant?  Is abortion wrong some of the time?  Is murder OK "some of the time"?

The tradition of marriage is centuries old and society has agreed that it has centered around the rearing of children.  Only a man and a woman are able to "produce" a child.  Two men and/or two women are incapable of producing children.  For this reason, there can be NO SUCH THING AS GAY MARRIAGE.  It simply cannot exist,  You may WANT it to exist.  Much like a square wheel...wanting it does not make it so.  It is the left that is divisively trying to divide this centuries old tradition...NOT people of faith.  It is the left that are bigots...hatefully calling people of faith...hatemongers.  HELLO!

Bless you,

Sherlock

Where is the ACLU now?!

It came to light recently that the Council of Islamic Relations has been pressuring our government to publicly fund Muslim footbaths to accommodate cabbies as they circle the airport awaiting passengers.  This is apparently needed in order to accommodate their need to cleanse themselves prior to praying multiple times a day.

I have no problem with the cleansing or the prayer tradition within their faith.  I have big beef with the utter hypocrisy on display here by the Republican ? oh... don't think so?  Democrat council members that allowed this public funding to take place...I just wonder WHAT would have been the reaction if a group of white Christian men in the upper income level (the ones who pay the tax bills for the congresspersons to make these ridiculous decisions) had petitioned city hall for a room where communion would be served within the airport?  Are the Buddhists next?  and then..Wiccans?

http://www.kansascity.com/116/story/90912.html

And while our colleges go out of their way to purge every vestige of Christianity OFF the campus including removing crosses that have been historical landmarks, they are apparently eager to accommodate and publicly fund anything for the Muslim counterparts.

Lastly, David Horowitz has done an outstanding job (once again) painting a work picture an helping explain WHY the ACLU is NOT on the case.  Two great articles follow:

More Truth About Global Warming

OK...so...let me get this straight...there was to be a large global warming protest (in April...not exactly the middle of the winter) and as this protest was being organized...a massive snowstorm was set to dump snow on the festivities.  In fact, if you read the link below (about half way down), many activities had to be cancelled...but the "global warming devotees" were determined and apperantly held their meeting...rain or snow.
http://www.saljournal.com/?module=displaystory&story_id=11532&format=html

So the leader of this new global warming "crisis" has a $30000 utility bill.  http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/GlobalWarming/story?id=2906888&page=1
AND...his solution?  Sell indulgences in the form of carbon credits...oh...by the way, he is PART OWNER in the company Generation Investment Management http://www.canadafreepress.com/2007/cover031307.htm

Recently  Al Gore received a strong rebuke from the New York Times (of all places).  Here is a link to an article from Media Matters that comments on this article and more.
http://mediamatters.org/columns/200703200006

My questions for you are as follows:
  1. 1) Exactly how much has the earth warmed... point 06 of a degree...(not exactly heat stroke!), and...
  2. 2) IF the earth HAS warmed .06 of a degree have the other planets warmed simultaneously?  Answer?  YES!  Could it be...THE SUN!?  http://www.livescience.com/environment/070312_solarsys_warming.html
  3. 3) Does it make sense to surrender our collective freedom and productive ability to a system that will yield a worldwide system of taxation and income re-distribution?  Answer? NO! (less developed countries will be "allowed additional carbon offsets and have less restrictive guidelines so they can "catch up" with the developed countries, they will in turn sell their "extra" carbon offsets to the developed countries who desperately need them to continue their standard of living)...perhaps the United Nations has finally figured out how to develop a global tax?  All of this based on a VERY shaky set of "facts" and hype!
  4. Jonah Goldberg writes that Al Gore has turned global warming into a religion.  Indeed he has if you read the following.  Remember, cow flatulence is the #1 cause of methane gas (believed to be a leading cause of global warming).  http://www.opinioneditorials.com/guestcontributors/kroeten_20070405.html

The Truth About the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

We celebrate Easter because three days after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ for the "crime" of having others say he was King of the Jews, Christ rose from the dead.  After he died, his limp body was wrapped in the traditional burial cloth, and he was laid in a tomb.  A large stone was then rolled to cover the opening and a guard was posted in front of the tomb to guard.

One ot THE MOST distinguishing characteristics of Christianity from any of the other major world religions is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.  This supernatural event differs from Islam, Buddism, Hinduism and any other world religion.

Here is a great link describing some of the evidences for the resurrection: http://www.leaderu.com/everystudent/easter/articles/josh2.html which in summary are:
1. Broken Roman Seal
2. Empty Tomb
3. Large Stone Moved
4. Roman Guard goes AWOL
5. Graveclothes tell a tale (Shroud of Turin)
http://www.shroud.com/
6. Jesus' Appearances Confirmed
7. Over 500 Witnesses

The Bible describes the resurrection in the latter part of the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John found in Scripture which are all the account of the life of Jesus.  You can read one of these accounts in the gospel of John chapter 20 (this is my favorite gospel).

Atheist Bertrand Russell, who doubted Jesus’ very existence, assumed that the resurrection of the body was impossible. In 1926, Russell wrote, "I believe that when I die I shall rot, and nothing of my own ego will survive."1 Well, that’s cheerful. Russell clearly bordered on the morose, but we’ve all wondered, with perhaps more optimism, what will happen to us when we die.

Death has been called "the great equalizer." Thousands of stone markers surrounded by spacious green lawns tell the stories. Nobel Prize winners. Beauty queens. Billionaires. Presidents. All die. Someday it will be our turn. Are we to despair with Russell, or is there hope? According to the New Testament, Jesus’ resurrection has given us hope for eternal life beyond the grave. All of Christianity hinges on that one promise.

Theologian R. C. Sproul has stated, "The claim of resurrection is vital to Christianity. If Christ has been raised from the dead by God, then He has the credentials and certification that no other religious leader possesses. Buddha is dead. Mohammad is dead. Moses is dead. Confucius is dead. But, according to … Christianity, Christ is alive."2

So different and so abnormal is all this that a part of us would like to dismiss it as myth. But is the resurrection to be relegated to a Sunday school story—or is there evidence?

Researcher Josh McDowell said, "After more than seven hundred hours of studying this subject and thoroughly investigating its foundation, I have come to the conclusion that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the most wicked, vicious, heartless hoaxes ever foisted upon the minds of men, OR it is the most fantastic fact of history."3 Right. So which is it?

Let’s look at the evidence.

CYNICS AND SKEPTICS

But not everyone is willing to fairly examine the evidence. Bertrand Russell admits his take on Jesus was "not concerned" with historical facts.4 Historian Joseph Campbell, without citing evidence, calmly told his PBS television audience that the resurrection of Jesus is not a factual event.5 Other scholars, such as John Dominic Crossan of the Jesus Seminar, agree with him.6 None of these skeptics present any evidence for their views.

To be honest, the thought that anyone could be dead for three days, and then come back to life is cause for a strong dose of skepticism. But whereas cynics are closed minded to the facts, according to Skeptic magazine, true skeptics always keep their minds open to the evidence. An editorial in the magazine states, "When we say we are ‘skeptical,’ we mean that we must see compelling evidence before we believe."7

"Buddha is dead.

Mohammad is dead.

Moses is dead.

Confucius is dead.

But according to Christianity...Christ is alive."

As our cold case of Jesus’ resurrection gets underway, let’s put ourselves in the role of a skeptic who needs compelling evidence before we will believe such an incredible event really occurred.

SELF-PROPHECY

In advance of his death, Jesus told his disciples that he would be betrayed, arrested, and crucified and that he would come back to life three days later. That’s a strange plan! What was behind it? Jesus was no entertainer willing to perform for others on demand; instead, he promised that his death and resurrection would prove to people (if their minds and hearts were open) that he was indeed the Messiah.

Bible scholar Wilbur Smith remarked about Jesus,

When he said that He himself would rise again from the dead, the third day after He was crucified, He said something that only a fool would dare say, if He expected longer the devotion of any disciples—unless He was sure He was going to rise. No founder of any world religion known to men ever dared say a thing like that.8

In other words, since Jesus had clearly told his disciples that he would rise again after his death, failure to keep that promise would expose him as a fraud.

So let’s begin our skeptical inquiry of the resurrection with the events surrounding Jesus’ death and burial.

WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE END OF THE STORY

You know what Jesus’ last hours of earthly life were like if you watched the movie by road warrior/braveheart Mel Gibson. If you missed parts of The Passion of the Christ because you were shielding your eyes (it would have been easier to simply shoot the movie with a red filter on the camera), just flip to the back pages of any Gospel in your New Testament to find out what you missed.

As Jesus predicted, he was betrayed by one of his own disciples, Judas Iscariot, and was arrested. In a mock trial under the Roman governor Pontius Pilate, he was convicted of treason and condemned to die on a wooden cross. Prior to being nailed to the cross, Jesus was brutally beaten with a Roman cat-o’-nine-tails, a whip with bits of bone and metal that would rip flesh. He was punched repeatedly, kicked, and spit upon.

Then, using mallets, the Roman executioners pounded the heavy wrought-iron nails into Jesus’ wrists and feet. Finally they dropped the cross in a hole in the ground between two other crosses bearing convicted thieves.

Jesus hung there for approximately six hours. Then, at 3:00 in the afternoon—that is, at exactly the same time the Passover lamb was being sacrificed as a sin offering—Jesus cried out, "It is finished" (in Aramaic), and died. Suddenly the sky went dark and an earthquake shook the land.9

Pilate wanted verification that Jesus was dead before allowing his crucified body to be buried. So a Roman guard thrust a spear into Jesus’ side. The mixture of blood and water that flowed out was a clear indication that Jesus was dead. Jesus’ body was then taken down from the cross and buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb. Roman

"The silence of history is deafening when it comes to the testimony against the resurrection."

Tom Anderson former president, California Trial Lawyers Association

guards next sealed the tomb and secured it with a 24-hour watch.

Meanwhile, Jesus’ disciples were in shock. Dr. J. P. Moreland writes of their mental state. "They no longer had confidence that Jesus had been sent by God. They also had been taught that God would not let his Messiah suffer death. So they dispersed. The Jesus movement was all but stopped in its tracks."10

SOMETHING HAPPENED

But it wasn’t the end. The Jesus movement did not disappear (obviously), and in fact Christianity exists today as the world’s largest religion. Therefore, we’ve got to know what happened after Jesus’ body was taken down from the cross and laid in the tomb.

In a New York Times article, Peter Steinfels cites the startling events that occurred three days after Jesus’ death: "Shortly after Jesus was executed, his followers were suddenly galvanized from a baffled and cowering group into people whose message about a living Jesus and a coming kingdom, preached at the risk of their lives, eventually changed an empire. Something happened… But exactly what?"11 That’s the question we have to answer with an investigation into the facts.

There are only five plausible explanations for Jesus’ alleged resurrection, as portrayed in the New Testament:

1. Jesus didn’t really die on the cross.

2. The "resurrection" was a conspiracy.

3. The disciples were hallucinating.

4. The account is legendary.

5. It really happened.

Let’s work our way through these options and see which one best fits the facts.

WAS JESUS DEAD?

"Marley was deader than a doornail, of that there was no doubt." So begins Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, the author not wanting anyone to be mistaken as to the supernatural character of what is soon to take place. In the same way, before we take on the role of CSI and piece together evidence for a resurrection, we must first establish that there was, in fact, a corpse. After all, occasionally the newspapers will report on some "corpse" in a morgue who was found stirring and recovered. Could something like that have happened with Jesus?

Some have proposed that Jesus lived through the crucifixion and was revived by the cool, damp air in the tomb–"Whoa, how long was I out for?" But that theory doesn’t seem to square with the medical evidence. An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association explains why this so-called "swoon theory" is untenable: "Clearly, the weight of historical and medical evidence indicated that Jesus was dead. … The spear, thrust between His right ribs, probably perforated not only the right lung but also the pericardium and heart and thereby ensured His death."12

But skepticism of this verdict may be in order, as this case has been cold for 2,000 years. At the very least, we need a second opinion.

One place to find that is in the reports of non-Christian historians from around the time when Jesus lived. Three of these historians mentioned the death of Jesus.

• Lucian (c.120–after 180 A.D.) referred to Jesus as a crucified sophist (philosopher).13

• Josephus (c.37–c.100A.D.) wrote, "At this time there appeared Jesus, a wise man, for he was a doer of amazing deeds. When Pilate condemned him to the cross, the leading men among us, having accused him, those who loved him did not cease to do so."14

• Tacitus (c. 56–c.120 A.D.) wrote, "Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty … at the hands of our procurator Pontius Pilate."15

This is a bit like going into the archives and finding that on one spring day in the first century The Jerusalem Post ran a front-page story saying that Jesus was crucified and dead. Not bad detective work, and fairly conclusive.

In fact, there is no historical account from Christians, Romans, or Jews that disputes either Jesus’ death or his burial. Even Crossan, a skeptic of the resurrection, agrees that Jesus really lived and died: "That he was crucified is as sure as anything historical can ever be."16 In light of such evidence, we seem to be on good grounds for dismissing the first of our five options. Jesus was clearly dead, "of that there was no doubt."

THE MATTER OF AN EMPTY TOMB

No serious historian really doubts Jesus was dead when he was taken down from the cross. However, many have questioned how Jesus’ body disappeared from the tomb. English journalist Dr. Frank Morison initially thought the resurrection was either

FRANK MORISON AND THE EXPOSÉ THAT NEVER WAS

In the early 1900s, German criticism of the Bible and the rationalist movement were sweeping over Western Europe and the United States, carrying with them the belief that nothing can happen apart from natural laws. With that naturalistic belief came a skepticism toward the foundation of Christianity—the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

One who was greatly influenced by such skepticism was English journalist Frank Morison, who came to believe that the story of Jesus rising from the dead was nothing more than a fairy tale for adults.

Morison decided to investigate the facts surrounding Jesus’ supposed resurrection, fully expecting to discover a story full of holes, missing evidence, and illogical conclusions. He then would write a book exposing the myth. This notable journalist wrote of his intent:

I wanted to take this last phase of the life of Jesus, with all its quick and pulsating drama, its sharp, clear-cut background of antiquity, and its tremendous psychological and human interest—to strip it of its overgrowth of primitive beliefs and dogmatic suppositions, and to see this supremely great Person as He really was.17

But Morison was stunned by what he discovered. He exclaimed, "The book as it was originally planned was left high and dry."18 Morison’s book—Who Moved the Stone?—did finally get written, but it had an entirely different ending than he had intended.

BODY COUNT • ARTICLE SIX 11

a myth or a hoax, and he began research to write a book refuting it.19 The book became famous but for reasons other than its original intent, as we’ll see.

Morison began by attempting to solve the case of the empty tomb. The tomb belonged to a member of the Sanhedrin Council, Joseph of Arimathea. In Israel at that time, to be on the council was to be a rock star. Everyone knew who was on the council. Joseph must have been a real person. Otherwise, the Jewish leaders would have exposed the story as a fraud in their attempt to disprove the resurrection. Also, Joseph’s tomb would have been at a well-known location and easily identifiable, so any thoughts of Jesus being "lost in the graveyard" would need to be dismissed.

Morison wondered why Jesus’ enemies would have allowed the "empty tomb myth" to persist if it wasn’t true. The discovery of Jesus’ body would have instantly killed the entire plot.

And what is known historically of Jesus’ enemies is that they accused Jesus’ disciples of stealing the body, an accusation clearly predicated on a shared belief that the tomb was empty.

Dr. Paul L. Maier, professor of ancient history at Western Michigan University, similarly stated, "If all the evidence is weighed carefully and fairly, it is indeed justifiable … to conclude that the tomb in which Jesus was buried was actually empty on the morning of the first Easter. And no shred of evidence has yet been discovered … that would disprove this statement."20

The Jewish leaders were stunned and accused the disciples of stealing Jesus’ body. But the Romans had assigned a 24-hour watch at the tomb with a trained guard unit (from 4 to 12 soldiers). Morison asked, "How could these professionals have let Jesus’ body be vandalized?" It would have been impossible for anyone to have slipped by the Roman guards and to have moved a two-ton stone. Yet the stone was moved away and the body of Jesus was missing.

If Jesus’ body was anywhere to be found, his enemies would have quickly exposed the resurrection as a fraud. Tom Anderson, former president of the California Trial Lawyers Association, summarizes the strength of this argument:

With an event so well publicized, don’t you think that it’s reasonable that one historian, one eye witness, one antagonist would record for all time that he had seen Christ’s body? … The silence of history is deafening when it comes to the testimony against the resurrection.21

So, with no body of evidence, and with a known tomb clearly empty, Morison accepted the evidence as solid that Jesus’ body had somehow disappeared from the tomb.

GRAVE ROBBING?

As Morison continued his investigation, he began to examine the motives of Jesus’ followers. Maybe the supposed resurrection was actually a stolen body. But if so, how does one account for all the reported appearances of a resurrected Jesus? Historian Paul Johnson, in History of the Jews, wrote, "What mattered was not the circumstances of his death but the fact that he was widely and obstinately believed, by an expanding circle of people, to have risen again."22

The tomb was indeed empty. But it wasn’t the mere absence of a body that could have galvanized Jesus’ followers (especially if they had been the ones who had stolen it). Something extraordinary must have happened, for the followers of Jesus ceased mourning, ceased hiding, and began fearlessly proclaiming that they had seen Jesus alive.

Each eyewitness account reports that Jesus suddenly appeared bodily to his followers, the women first. Morison wondered why conspirators would make women central to its plot. In the first century, women had virtually no rights, personhood, or status. If the plot was to succeed, Morison reasoned, the conspirators would have portrayed men, not women, as the first to see Jesus alive. And yet we hear that women touched him, spoke with him, and were the first to find the empty tomb.

Later, according to the eyewitness accounts, all the disciples saw Jesus on more than ten separate occasions. They wrote that he showed them his hands and feet and told them to touch him. And he reportedly ate with them and later appeared alive to more than 500 followers on one occasion.

Legal scholar John Warwick Montgomery stated, "In 56 A.D. [the apostle] Paul wrote that over 500 people had seen the risen Jesus and that most of them were still alive (1 Corinthians 15:6ff.). It passes the bounds of credibility that the early Christians could have manufactured such a tale and then preached it among those who might easily have refuted it simply by producing the body of Jesus."23

Bible scholars Geisler and Turek agree. "If the Resurrection had not occurred, why would the apostle Paul give such a list of supposed eyewitnesses? He would immediately lose all credibility with his Corinthian readers by lying so blatantly."24

British Bible scholar Michael Green remarked, "The appearances of Jesus are as well authenticated as anything in antiquity. … There can be no rational doubt that they occurred."25

CONSISTENT TO THE END

As if the eyewitness reports were not enough to challenge Morison’s skepticism, he was also baffled by the disciples’ behavior. A fact of history that has stumped historians, psychologists, and skeptics alike is that these 11 former cowards were suddenly willing to suffer humiliation, torture, and death. All but one of Jesus’ disciples were slain as martyrs. Would they have done so much for a lie, knowing they had taken the body?

The Islamic martyrs on September 11 proved that some will die for a false cause they believe in. Yet to be a willing martyr for a known lie is insanity. As Paul Little wrote, "Men will die for what they believe to be true, though it may actually be false. They do not, however, die for what they know is a lie."26 Jesus’ disciples behaved in a manner consistent with a genuine belief that their leader was alive.

No one has adequately explained why the disciples would have been willing to die for a known lie. But even if they all conspired to lie about Jesus’ resurrection, how could they have kept the conspiracy going for decades without at least one of them selling out for money or position? Moreland wrote, "Those who lie for personal gain do not stick together very long, especially when hardship decreases the benefits."27

Chuck Colson, implicated in the Watergate scandal, pointed out the difficulty of several people maintaining a lie for an extended period of time.

I know the resurrection is a fact, and Watergate proved it to me. How? Because 12 men testified they had seen Jesus raised from the dead, then they proclaimed that truth for 40 years, never once denying it. Every one was beaten, tortured, stoned and put in prison. They would not have endured that if it weren’t true. Watergate embroiled 12 of the most powerful men in the world—and they couldn’t keep a lie for three weeks. You’re telling me 12 apostles could keep a lie for 40 years? Absolutely impossible.28

Something happened that changed everything for these men and women. Morison acknowledged, "Whoever comes to this problem has sooner or later to confront a fact that cannot be explained away. … This fact is that … a profound conviction came to the little group of people—a change that attests to the fact that Jesus had risen from the grave."29

A BAD TRIP?

Sometimes certain people can "see" things they want to, things that aren’t really there. And that’s why some have claimed that the disciples were so distraught over the crucifixion that their desire to see Jesus alive caused mass hallucination. Plausible?

Psychologist Gary Collins, former president of the American Association of Christian Counselors, was asked about the possibility that hallucinations were behind the disciples’ radically changed behavior. Collins remarked, "Hallucinations are individual occurrences. By their very nature only one person can see a given hallucination at a time. They certainly aren’t something which can be seen by a group of people."30

Hallucination is not even a remote possibility, according to psychologist Thomas J. Thorburn. "It is absolutely inconceivable that … five hundred persons, of average soundness of mind … should experience all kinds of sensuous impressions—visual, auditory, tactual—and that all these … experiences should rest entirely upon … hallucination."31

"The appearances of Jesus are as well authenticated as anything in antiquity....There can be no rational doubt that they occurred."

FROM LIE TO LEGEND?

Some unconvinced skeptics attribute the resurrection story to a legend on a par with King Arthur’s round table, or Robin Hood.

But there are three major problems with that theory.

1. Legends rarely develop while multiple eyewitnesses are alive to refute them. One historian of ancient Rome and Greece, A. N. Sherwin-White, argued that the resurrection news spread too soon and too quickly for it to have been a legend. 32

2. Legends develop by oral tradition and don’t come with contemporary historical documents that can be verified. Yet the Gospels were written within three decades of the resurrection. 33

3. The legend theory doesn’t adequately explain either the fact of the empty tomb or the historically verified conviction of the apostles that Jesus was alive. 34

WHY DID CHRISTIANITY WIN?

Morison was bewildered by the fact that "a tiny insignificant movement was able to prevail over the cunning grip of the Jewish establishment, as well as the might of Rome." Why did it win, in the face of all those odds against it?

He wrote, "Within twenty years the claim of these Galilean peasants had disrupted the Jewish church. … In less than fifty years it had begun to threaten the peace of the Roman Empire. When we have said everything that can be said … we stand confronted with the greatest mystery of all. Why did it win?"35

By all rights, Christianity should have died out at the cross when the disciples fled for their lives. But the apostles went on to establish a growing Christian movement.

J. N. D. Anderson wrote, "Think of the psychological absurdity of picturing a little band of defeated cowards cowering in an upper room one day and a few days later transformed into a company that no persecution could silence—and then attempting to attribute this dramatic change to nothing more convincing than a miserable fabrication. … That simply wouldn’t make sense."36

Many scholars believe (in the words of an ancient commentator) that "the blood of the martyrs was the seed of the church." Historian Will Durant observed, "Caesar and Christ had met in the arena and Christ had won."37

A SURPRISE CONCLUSION

Morison became convinced that his preconceived bias against Jesus Christ’s resurrection had been wrong. He began writing a different book—entitled Who Moved the Stone?—to detail his new conclusions. Morison simply followed the trail of evidence, clue by clue, until the truth of the case seemed clear to him. His surprise was that the evidence led to a belief in the resurrection. He writes, "It was as though a man set out to cross a forest by a familiar and well-beaten track and came out suddenly where he did not expect to come out." 38

Morison is not alone. Countless other skeptics have examined the evidence for Jesus’ resurrection, and accepted it as the most astounding fact in all of human history. But the resurrection of Jesus Christ brings us back to the question: What does the fact that Jesus defeated death have to do with my life? The answer to that question is what New Testament Christianity is all about. (See article 7)

"a tiny insignificant movement was able to prevail over the cunning grip of the Jewish establishment as well as the might of Rome....we stand confronted with the greatest mystery of all. Why did it win?"

A STUNNED PROFESSOR

A skeptic of the resurrection, Simon Greenleaf (1783–1853) helped to put the Harvard Law School on the map. He wrote A Treatise on the Law of Evidence, which is still regarded as one of the outstanding works on establishing legal evidence. Professor Greenleaf had stated to his Harvard law class that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a legend. In a rebuttal, three of his law students challenged him to apply his acclaimed rules of evidence to the resurrection account.

Greenleaf accepted the students’ challenge. Yet this expert in evaluating evidence was unable to explain the dramatic change in the behavior of the disciples without assuming the truth of the

resurrection. Greenleaf reasoned that no group of people could have maintained their story

through such persecution unless they knew it was true.39

After systematically evaluating the evidence, the Harvard law professor reversed his bias against the resurrection, concluding, "There is more evidence for the historical fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ than for just about anyother event in history."40

Can you imagine a 6' anatomically correct statue of Muhammad?

Recently, an artist rendered an anatomically correct  six foot chocolate statue of Jesus called "my Sweet Lord" that was shown in the Roger Smith Hotel in New York.  What if this were a statue of Muhammad or Martin Luther King?  Would this statue have been created of Muhammad...doubt it...

http://www.postchronicle.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=11&num=71642

Oh...it's different if it's a Christian thing...apparently it is OK to insult Christians...kind of like when you're a democrat...seems a different set of rules apply.

Like William ($90000 in the freezer) Jefferson vs. Tom Delay or Bill Clinton (it's his private life silly) vs. Ted Haggard (we are all supposed to see beyond the homosexual/hetrosexual barrier thing...)  I do have a problem with Ted Haggard and he deserves our thoughts and prayers.   The left wants us to accept homosexuality as a way of life so badly and then they turn right around and out this guy when it will help their cause.  It smells like rotten fish to me.

Happy Easter & God Bless!

The Truth About the Crucifixion

One of the distinguishing charactristics that sets Christianity apart from any of the major faiths is the crucifixion Jesus Christ.  Crucifixion is a particularly gruesome form of punishment , as one is pierced with nails in each hand.  The feet are joined and nailed to a single post.   The individual is then left hanging alive to bleed to death and die of thirst and starvation.

Muslims often make the claim that Jesus was not crucified since this is what is taught in the Quran and by Muhammad.   It may, therefore, be particularly important to examine the evidences for the crucifixion which are well laid out here http://answering-islam.org/Silas/crucified.htm

  • Bottom line is this:

Jesus Christ was crucified.  All known evidence supports and corroborates the crucifixion.  There is no legitimate evidence doubting Christ's crucifixion.

I think if you are willing to honestly take a moment, pray (nothing fancy or too "religious", just have your still small voice ask God to help you understand it) and research this topic with an open heart, you will find there is a great amount of substantial research available.

This should get you started.  I would also suggest reading the gospel of John.

God bless you.

The Truth About Sandy Berger

Recently it came to light that China shot one of it's aging satellites out of the sky, some 500 miles away!  Loral Space has a long history of ties to funny money with the DNC & China and also their able assistance made this spectacular achievement possible thus placing them smack in the middle of this apparent schism!
http://www.cashill.com/terrorism/bergers_china.htm (This is an excellent article!)
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/7/7/150106.shtml

Stonebridge International (with a Stonebridge China division) Chairman Sandy Berger was instrumental in providing what (technology and development of equipment) was needed for China to be able to shoot the  satellite down.  The next obvious concern is for the safety of the citizens in Taiwan and Los Angeles.  Loral Space also has ties to Sandy Berger and Stonebridge as Berger was chairman of Loral prior to his current post as chairman at Stonebridge.

I have no axe to grind with Bill Clinton and his cronies.  For those who have taken a moment to read my bio, you will see this blog is a "filing cabinet" of sorts for what I consider to important issues and the actual truth about them versus what is being "reported".

Sandy Berger stole original documents from the national archives, hid them in a trailer outside, lied to cover it up and basically got a slap on the wrist.  Why?  Anyone's guess at this point (we'll never know now that  the documents are gone will we?)   There is discussion of "important notes in the margins" from high level public officials and probably regarding the 9/11 tragedy (more on this below.)

Funny thing didn't happen on the way back from the White House one day back in January and March of 1994 when he was ordered to divest himself of some Amoco stock because it might create a conflict of interest,  Well...this Vietnam hating, Clinton loving patriot said "he planned to sell the stock, but failed to follow up quickly and then simply forgot.  He denied knowingly participating in any decisions in which he had a financial interest."  Funny how that happens...surely we can trust him, his word is his bond!  He was fined $23,000.
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1997/11/10/email/berger/

Back to the stolen classified original national archive documents.  Berger was one of the very few people who had access to these documents as former National Security Advisor under Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001.   Berger claims that as he went through a large number of documents last fall, (October, 2004) he inadvertently put a few in his briefcase and took them home. "In the course of reviewing over several days thousands of pages of documents on behalf of the Clinton administration in connection with requests by the September 11 commission, I inadvertently took a few documents from the Archives," Berger said in a written statement. "When I was informed by the Archives that there were documents missing, I immediately returned everything I had except for a few documents that I apparently had accidentally discarded."  (Oops! Funny how that happens!)
http://www.nationalreview.com/york/york200407210837.asp

Well...it turns out contrary to his original statement, "Berger took a break to go outside without an escort while it was dark. He had taken four documents in his pockets.  "He headed toward a construction area. ... Mr. Berger looked up and down the street, up into the windows of the Archives and the DOJ (Department of Justice), and did not see anyone," the interview notes said.

He then slid the documents under a construction trailer, according to the inspector general. Berger acknowledged that he later retrieved the documents from the construction area and returned with them to his office.  http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,237857,00.html  These are NOT the actions of a man that inadvertantly put a few (documents) in his briefcase.

So what was IN these all so important docs?
"Berger, with the authorization of former President Clinton, was reviewing National Security Council documents on Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida, Sudan, and related presidential correspondence."

But wait...there's more...

Curt Weldon of Able Danger notoriety (ID'd Atta as a terrorist in 2000) was defeated in his
http://townhall.com/columnists/LindaChavez/2005/08/24/getting_to_the_bottom_of_able_danger re-election bid by Democrat Joe Sestak.  There are questions about the fundraising ties to none other than Stonebridge International itself (Sandy Berger is CEO remember?)  In addition to hiring as his spokesperson Allison Price, who is listed on the Stonebridge International website as the Director of Communications (she contributed $500 personally by the way).  Other contributors to the Sestak campaign included Sandy Berger himself at $1000 and Mary McCarthy (recently dismissed for releasing classified information about secret overseas CIA prisons to the Washington Post) $350.

Soros funded CREW (Committee for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington) vice president and Philadelphia lawyer Daniel Berger maxed out.  John Kerry helped raise more than $128000 for Sestak.  John Deutch, who had signed a criminal plea agreement in connection with his mishandling of national secrets a day before being pardoned by the outgoing President Clinton contributed to the campaign as well.
http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52973 http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Campaign/042506_state.html

As stated eloquently in point #13 in the link below:

The vice president of CREW — Philadelphia trial lawyer Daniel Berger — has maxed out on his own contributions to Weldon opponent Joe Sestak. Remember this is supposed to be a "non-partisan" "objective" "simply good government" group. Its "non-partisan" fig leaf loses credibility given that Berger himself gave more that $150,000 to the Democrat Party and left-wing 527 groups. Berger, his law partners, and relatives have racked up thousands of dollars to Sestak's campaign. More — much more — money has gone to left and Democrat Party groups that likely funneled much of it to Sestak.

So...Weldon lost his seat, looks like the lefties won this battle for now, unfortunately.  And they continue to harass Weldon and his daughter.  See the link below.

For more about the truth about Curt Weldon, see this link
http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/vernon/061106

Oh...and wasn't there something funny about Ron Brown's death?  There were allegations that Brown traded seats on trade missions for DNC campaign donations, John Huang (Al Gore funbdraising pal) and Ira Sokowitz were at Ron Brown's Commerce Department at the times of leaking classified sattelite technology to the Chinese (Oops! Funny how that happens...again!)

It is worth noting that Brown was one of four Clinton campaign fundraisers to die under questionable circumstances.   The others were C. Victor Raiser, Hershel Friday, and Ed Wiley.  Barbara Wise also died under questionable circumstances as did Vince Foster, whose office, like Brown's was ransacked for files, immediartely following their respective deaths.

The Truth About the Religion of Peace

I was surprised to hear Nancy Pelosi describe our efforts in Iraq, not as a war, but as "a situation, that needs to be managed."  hotair.com/.../11/08/pelosi-iraq-isnt-a-war-gannett-the-voice-of-the-military

To be clear...we do have a very difficult situation and it does indeed need to be managed.  It is called a war Nancy!    It is a situation against a tireless and very determined enemy.  In fact, if you take a moment to review this website http://thereligionofpeace.com/ and further print the contents of this link http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/index.html#Attacks, you will find some 50 pages of murderous atrocities that have been committed in the name of Allah and of peace.  Below is a sanapshot of the current list from the last 3 months and below that the current content of the front page of the website.

For my North Carolina friends, there is another bit of interesting news here
http://www.danielpipes.org/article/349 as a man with ties to Hezbollah and relatives in Venezuela seems to be finding was to generate funds in the states.   This is old news from August, 2000!  We have a situation that needs to be managed Nancy?!

The religion of Secular Humanism and how the so called wall of separation seems to work one way

We have heard so much from the left as they make every effort to ensure that Johnny cannot even consider uttering the word (gulp)  "God" without fear of the ACLU lawyers coming down on the school and probably on him personally.  The following link details multiple  examples of abrogations of our free speech rights being restricted or taken away by a hypersensitive and overbearing government based on the (mis)interpretation of Jefferson's so called wall of separation concept in his letter to the Danbury Baptists.

THIS RELATIVELY NEW PHENOMMENON STARTED IN 1947 IN THE EVERSON VS. BOARD OF EDUCATION CASE (a great deal of American Christian History existed before this time)

The first two examples from the link below are:
  • Remove student prayer: "Prayer in its public school system breaches the constitutional wall of separation between Church and State." [Engel v. Vitale, 370 U.S. 421, 425 (1962).]
  • It is unconstitutional for students to hear prayers of the Chaplain of the U.S. House or Senate. [State Board of Ed. vs. Board of Ed. of Netcong, 1970] http://www.jeremiahproject.com/trashingamerica/freespeech2.html
  • As for the wall of separation, this has been a convenient way to exclude every vestige of Christian thought, principle, tradition and even history from our schools.  The result has been that we have replaced our Judeo Christian culture with another; cultural Marxism or perhaps even atheism.

David Barton does an excellent job laying out the case that while the phrase "separation of church" is often used, what is so often left out is the second half of this phrase, or prohibit the free exercise thereof.  Apparently, as detailed on page 3 of the attached link, "Jefferson had no intention of allowing the government to limit, restrict, regulate, or interfere with public religious practices."  There are several quotes from his own pen to that effect in this article.
    http://www.wallbuilders.com/resources/search/detail.php?ResourceID=9
    http://www.jeremiahproject.com/culture/ch_state.html

Finally, I am persuaded that the "religion" of secular humanism has been allowed to slowly creep into our society and replace that of Christianity.  Much like Europe, we are becoming a godless nation without any moorings or purpose.  http://www.christiananswers.net/q-sum/sum-g002.html

Where is the hope?  I have pointed out the doom & gloom.  Well, it seems that if we define a roadmap, then we can know where we are going and when we arrive.  My hope is that you will find joy in the beauty of creation, help make this world a better place in which to live through showing kindness and compassion to others.

Surprise!? Mormonism & Islam share so much in common!

Recently, I was rather startled to learn from a friend how much the misguided faiths of Mormonism and Islam share in common.  So I started doing a little digging and was amazed to see the similarities!  What was quite "odd" was that while I was digging further one of the podcasts to which I subscribe, John Ankerberg  http://www.johnankerberg.org/  had the very topic of the similarities of Mormonism and Islam on the January 18 & 19 featuring two converted Muslims who are now here in the States.  How often do you hear this discussed...really!

From the aforementioned John Ankerberg radio program featuring the two former Muslims who have converted to Christianity highlighting the similarities between Mormonism and Islam, I have summarized some of what was said about what these two faiths have in common below:
    • both see all the world as corrupt
    • both received a revalation from an angel (I believe both were deceived by a fallen angel)
    • both received their revelations from tablets
    • both believe Judaism & Christianity were true at one point but became corrupted and that their respective prophets returned to rescue the faiths and as the final word and authority
    • both believe Jesus was a prophet but in no way God
    • both believe Jesus would send the final prophet (themselves, of course)
    • both see women as sexual objects for all eternity (70 virgins Islam/celestial brides Mormons)
    • both accept polygamy, Muhammad had a child bride at age 6 and consummated the "marriage" at age 9

The Bible is clear:  God loves us unconditionally.  Christ has died for our sins.  There is nothing we can do to add or take away from God's perfect gift of forgiveness by offering the blood Christ to redeem us from the wrath of God.

There are additional writings on this topic here:
    http://www.bible.ca/islam/islamic-mormonism-similarities.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygamy

Is it possible that the founder of Mormonism and it's so-called prophet Joseph Snith studied Islam ?  Perhaps.  For a detailed discussion of the impact of freemasonry on mormonism see this link http://www.sunstoneonline.com/magazine/issues/141/141-32-41.pdf

All Scripture is inspired by God and is not corrupt
II Tim 3:16 - all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

Adam brought sin into the world, Christ took the punishment of our sin away
Romans 5:15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.

It is by God's grace, not by our works that we are saved
Ephesians 2:4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)

The Truth About the Prophecies of Jesus

There a couple of things that separate Christianity from other faiths such as Buddhism, Islam or even genuine Christianity from counterfeit forms of Christianity such as Mormonism.
    • The belief in the inerrancy of scripture (all Scripture is God breathed, inspired by the Holy Spirit)
    •  The prophetic fulfillment of Christ's birth, mission & death
    • The belief that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God and the sole means to salvation
    • The resurrection of Jesus' body from his tomb where the was buried

This particular topic will focus specifically on the second item; the prophecies of Jesus.  Two of the more common scriptures used Messanic prophecy are:

    Isaiah 53 (The Suffering Servant)

Isaiah 53 is probably the most famous example of a messianic prophecy claimed by Christians. It speaks of a sinless man known as the "suffering servant" who will "atone" for his people's sins. By his voluntary suffering, he will save sinners from Yahweh's punishment. Jesus is said to fulfill this prophecy,[1] although Jewish scholars argue that the suffering servant is actually
Israel.[2] The following verse from Isaiah 53:5 is understood by Christians to speak of Jesus:

5But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

    Zechariah 12:10

Zechariah 12:10 is another verse commonly cited by Christian authors as a messianic prophecy as interpreted by the Gospel writers. [3]

“And they shall look upon him whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him as one mourns for an only son; and they shall grieve over him, as the manner is to grieve for the death of the firstborn.”

The Gospel writers make reference to this prophecy when referring to the crucifixion of Jesus, as can be seen in the following account from the book of John:

“So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with Jesus; but when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water… For these things took place that the scripture might be fulfilled, ‘Not a bone of him shall be broken.’ And again another scripture says, ‘They shall look on him whom they have pierced’” (John 19: 32-37).  http://www.answers.com/prophecies+of+jesus?gwp=11&ver=2.1.1.521&method=3

Here are a few of the major old testament prophecies and the new testament scripture where the prophecy has been fulfilled.   http://www.messianicbible.com/prophecies.asp There are these and other prophecies discussed in more detail here:
    http://www.jesusplusnothing.com/prophecy.htm
    http://www.carm.org/atheism/why_believe.htm

One of the more detailed links for past, current and future prophecy impact is the John Ankerberg link found here:
    http://www.ankerberg.com/Articles/archives-bp.htm

So many claim to possess a working knowlege of "The Truth".  Who actually does have a handle on the truth?  I would say that Christ Himself claims that he is "the way the truth and the light" (Jn:14:6a) and further that "no one came come to the Father except through me." (Jn 14:6b).  Prophecies have aligned themselves and come to pass; Christ is the Messiah. Let us consider the statistical likelihood of these prophecies mentioned above being laid down, some as early as 750 years prior to his birth, and then all of them coming true.

Here is an article, again with John Ankerberg, on probablity and helping the reader contrast various measures units of comparison:
    http://www.johnankerburg.com/Articles/science/SC0202W3.htm

And another discussing the probability: http://www.usenetreligion.com/showthread.php?t=75178  And please know there were munlitple eyewitness testimonies that coroborated
the fulfillment of prophecy in and through the life of Jesus, witnessed the miracles of Jesus firsthand and the experienced death, burial, return and resurrection of Jesus.  This was a very unusual occurrance that deserves much  more than a passing shrug.

    The Truth About Islam

Islam is one of the largest religions in the world today. It might be helpful to have a look at some of the basic tenants of the faith in an effort to understand it better. The religion is based on the inspiration of the revelations that given to Muhammad claims to have received them from the angel Gabriel.  Muhammad recorded these revalations in the Qur'an between the years 610-632.

There are five pillars of Islam:

    • Shahadah - there is none worthy of worship but Allah and Muhammad is His last messenger
    • Salat - establishing of the five daily prayers
    • Zakat - obigatory giving (generaly 2.5% of total savings working man, 10% or 20% annual produce for agricultriculturists. This money and produce is distributed to the poor.)
    • Sawm - fasting on Ramadan
    • Hajj - pilgrimage to Mecca

Two major sects of the Muslim culture we hear about today are the Sunni and Shiite. Al Qaeda is made up of Sunni Muslims and Hezbullah (which fought Israel in Lebanon this past summer) is Shiite.

    • The Sunni branch believes that the first four caliphs--Mohammed's successors--rightfully took his place as the leaders of Muslims. They recognize the heirs of the four caliphs as legitimate religious leaders. These heirs ruled continuously in the Arab world until the break-up of the Ottoman Empire following the end of the First World War.
    • Shiites, in contrast, believe that only the heirs of the fourth caliph, Ali, are the legitimate successors of Mohammed.
    • In 931 the Twelfth Imam disappeared. This was a seminal event in the history of Shiite Muslims.
      • His return will be preceded by three years of horrendous world choas, tyranny and oppression
      • The 12th Imam is believed to return just before the end of the world
      • His return is believed to eradicate all tyranny and oppression bringing harmony and total peace

    http://www.allaboutpopularissues.org/12th-imam.htm

Perhaps this is why we are seeing an increase in violence and chaos?

    • Another difference between Sunnis and Shiites has to do with the Mahdi, "the rightly-guided one" whose role is to bring a just global caliphate into being.
    • A caliphate is a single global state ruled by Sharia law http://.danielpipes.org/blog/548

    http://hnn.us/articles/934.html

For a definition of the term jihad, see the left hand side of the website http://jihadwatch.org/ which reads in part:

    • Because the West is facing a concerted effort by Islamic jihadists, the motives and goals of whom are largely ignored by the Western media, to destroy the West and bring it forcibly into the Islamic world -- and to commit violence to that end even while their overall goal remains out of reach. That effort goes under the general rubric of jihad.
    • Jihad (in Arabic, "struggle") is a central duty of every Muslim. Modern Muslim theologians have spoken of many things as jihads: the struggle within the soul, defending the faith from critics, supporting its growth and defense financially, even migrating to non-Muslim lands for the purpose of spreading Islam. But violent jihad is a constant of Islamic history. Many passages of the Qur'an and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad are used by jihad warriors today to justify their actions and gain new recruits. No major Muslim group has ever repudiated the doctrines of armed jihad. The theology of jihad, which denies unbelievers equality of human rights and dignity, is available today for anyone with the will and means to bring it to life.

While Muhammed claims to have received inspiration from the angel Gabriel, another angel spoke to a so-called prophet named Joseph Smith who founded Mormonism.  What do these two faiths have in common?  Plenty!  In both cases these men were deceived by fallen angels, their founders both had multiple wives (in the case of Muhammed, he "married" a child bride at age 6 and consummated the marriage at her age 9!   http://www.faithfreedom.org/Articles/sina/ayesha.htm ).

That is a very quick overview. Hopefully it provides some clarity. More to come later!

    The Truth About Jimmy Carter

Unfortunately, Jimmy Carter recently penned a book called Palestine: Peace not Apartheid. I say unfortunately because it is quite clear that this book takes the side of the Arabs in a long-standing Arab/Israeli conflict. I was as shocked as anyone to see Mr. Carter disrespect the Jewish people as I had always thought our former president was somewhat objective.

Two articles from Front Page Magazine detail the millions of dollars given to the Jimmy Carter Center by Arab financiers and why this might have persuaded his "opinion".
    http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=25994
    http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=26045

From CNN Friday, January 12, 2007, we learn another 14 Carter Center advisors are resigning due to the joint statement that "we can no longer endorse your strident and uncompromising position. This is not the Carter Center or the Jimmy Carter we came to respect and support." http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/12/us/12carter.html?_r=1&8br=&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

One of Mr. Carter's "greatest accomplishments" during his presidency was bringing the Arabs and Israelis together for "peace talks." The legacy of the failed Carter presidency is well documented here http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2006/12/13/cstillwell.DTL. What is even more amazing is the very moment Mr. Carter was receiving the Nobel Peace prize our friends (just kidding) the North Koreans were developing their first nuclear weapon. http://www.davidstuff.com/incorrect/goldberg3.htm

    Way to go Jimmy!

    The Truth About Al Qaeda

We seem to be facing an increasingly hostile presence of radical Islam in this country as witnessed by the recent gathering of over 1500 supporters of Sharia law in Minneapolis demonstrating against the US policies in far away places like Somolia. Do you really think a few neighborhood folks got up in arms about this!? http://www.startribune.com/462/story/907052.html

I am becoming increasingly concerned about radical Islam. You may be a bit like me and not be too sure what Al Qaeda is all about. Well, I started doing a little digging and thought I might break it down into some bite size pieces. Basically, Al Qaeda is "a multi national network of terrorist organizations and radical Islamic groups that seek to create other radical Islamic groups where none currently exist." (see fas.org link below for source)

PBS put together an excellent timeline on the life of Osama Bin Laden here
    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/knew/etc/cron.html

The group was established by Osama Bin Ladin in the late 1980s and he is working under the banner of "the World Islamic Front for Jihad Against the Jews and Crusaders" and has clearly encouraged his followers to kill US citizens - civilian or military - and their allies everywhere. The actual statement by Bin Laden can be found here
    http://www.fas.org/irp/world/para/docs/980223-fatwa.htm

The list of criminal activities that can be credited to Al Qaeda activity includes:

    · 2003 carried out assault and bombing on 5/12 of 3 expatriate housing complexes in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

    · Assisted in carrying out bombings on 5/26 in Casablanca, Morocco of Jewish Center, restaurant, nightclub & hotel that killed 41 & injured 101.

    · Responsible for the assault and bombing on 11/9 of a housing complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that killed 17 and injured 100.

    · Conducted the bombings of two synagogues in Istanbul, Turkey, on 11/15 that killed 23 and injured 200 and the bombings in Istanbul of the British Consulate and HSBC Bank on 20 November that resulted in 27 dead and 455 injured.

    · In 2002, carried out bombing on 11/28 of hotel in Mombassa, Kenya, killing 15 and injuring 40.

    · Probably supported a nightclub bombing in Bali, Indonesia, on 10/12 that killed about 180.

    · Responsible for an attack on US military personnel in Kuwait, on 10/8, that killed one US soldier and injured another.

    · Directed a suicide attack on the MV Limburg off the coast of Yemen, on 10/6 that killed one and injured four.

    · Carried out a firebombing of a synagogue in Tunisia on 4/11 that killed 19 and injured 22.

    · On 11 September 2001, 19 al-Qaida suicide attackers hijacked and crashed four US commercial jets, two into the World Trade Center in New York City, one into the Pentagon near Washington, DC, and a fourth into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, leaving about 3,000 individuals dead or missing.

    · Directed the 12 October 2000 attack on the USS Cole in the port of Aden, Yemen, killing 17 US Navy members, and injuring another 39.

    · Conducted the bombings in August 1998 of the US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dares Salaam, Tanzania that killed at least 301 individuals and injured more than 5,000 others.

    · Claims to have shot down US helicopters and killed US servicemen in Somalia in 1993 and to have conducted three bombings that targeted US troops in Aden, Yemen, in December 1992.

    · Al-Qaida is linked to the following plans that were disrupted or not carried out: to assassinate Pope John Paul II during his visit to Manila in late 1994, to kill President Clinton during a visit to the Philippines in early 1995, to bomb in midair a dozen US trans-Pacific flights in 1995, and to set off a bomb at Los Angeles International Airport in 1999.

    · Also plotted to carry out terrorist operations against US and Israeli tourists visiting Jordan for millennial celebrations in late 1999. (Jordanian authorities thwarted the planned attacks and put 28 suspects on trial.)

    · In December 2001, suspected al-Qaida associate Richard Colvin Reid attempted to ignite a shoe bomb on a transatlantic flight from Paris to Miami.

    · Attempted to shoot down an Israeli chartered plane with a surface-to-air missile as it departed the Mombasa airport in November 2002. http://www.fas.org/irp/world/para/ladin.htm

    Any questions?

When a religion such as Islam is intertwined with various governments such as Iraq and Iran who have sworn their allegiance to destroying this nation, it begins to concern me.  And when the rumblings of nationalist individuals begin to make their presence known here, it concerns me further.

Do we as a nation have the backbone to define evil for what it is or do we simply sit back in our comfy armchairs and hide because it is too politically incorrect to discuss this with anyone?   I am all for anyone worshipping whatever god they choose.

I also wish to stand for what made this nation great...freedom and liberty.  Freedom to worship, freedom to express our thoughts in a civil manner.  This does NOT mean our major media should be intimidated and cower at the sight of a riot over a few cartoons.  We are a great nation whose forefathers fought for our right to be able to worship whatever gods we chose and to speak and write freely without the fear of Shria law clamping down upon us.
